Canon Girls Camp of JFA Elite Program Women’s U-13 - training camp report (5/18, 19)

As the fourth day of the training camp had the second "Canon Programme" in the morning on 18 May, the U-13 girls filled out distributed cards with their dream, message to themselves 10 years later and what type of player they want to become. At night, they had their final group meeting and discussed a goal for a match on the final day.

On the final day (10 May), the girls had an 8 v 8 scrimmage to cap the camp. They called out each other more than the match on the third day (17 May) and aggressively took on challenges. Meanwhile, they showed big growth off the pitch as well. The young players wrapped up the five-day programme with a promise to meet up at the Elite Programme and future tournaments.

Staff Comment

YODOGAWA Tomoharu (JFA National Training Centre Coach, Kanto Region)
After expanding the scale and contents as the "Canon Girls Camp" with support by Canon Inc. since last year, the programme entered its second season. The players seemed to be tense on the first day but actively worked on physical checkup and lectures (nutrition, body trunk and physical). More and more players aggressively took on "promise," which we discussed in the lecture on the second day, and I felt players' look changed through the five day and they grew even a little.

During the activity, training centre staff and technical coaches for U-12 and U-15 in each region and participated in our coaching workshop. Just like last year, we got them to observe our training sessions and lectures. In the lectures, we were successful in providing them with communication opportunities between regions with aims "to inform them of the Elite Programme" and "to have them discuss situations in their community." I appreciate we shared productive time with players, staff and people concerned in each region.

Players' Comments

MATSUHISA Kanna (Jumonji Junior High School)
My goal of this camp was to get better by training with good players from all over the country. In the trainings, I strongly realised that it is important to look around and see in advance what is going on and to play with good timing. In the possession training, I lost the ball many times because I couldn’t look around in advance. But in the matches, I kept talking to my teammates and kept my attacking attitude even from my defence.

In the last match, I was able to coach my teammates from defence more than usual, and was able to make good decisions in passing and dribbling. But speaking of my assignment of judging quickly after looking around, I couldn’t make many direct plays. I will take what I learned in this camp back to my club and keep challenging myself to get better. I am happy that I had a chance to join this camp.

KOIZUMI Nanase (Albirex Niigata Ladies U-15)
Today (18 May) had possession drills. I learned that I should go to the open space when my teammate has the ball and the defence goes to her and creates open space. Also my coach told me to always keep my eye on the goal which we attack. I also kept telling myself to receive the ball in order to be able to keep my eye on the goal at the same time. The practice was mainly about attacking, but if we don’t have good defence, we can’t have good practice. So I kept trying to play good defence.

TOMO Nanaka (Cerezo Osaka Sakai Girls)
The fourth day (18 May) had drills on cross balls. When doing that, I found the positioning difficult. But I could perform in games what my coach advised me, and I kept it in mind well. There were many things I couldn’t do well, but there were also many things that went well. I will take back to my club all the lessons I had in this 5-day camp and keep working on what I couldn’t do in this camp.

TAKAWA Serika (Cerezo Osaka Sakai Girls)
I learned a lot in this elite programme. I learned the importance of working together with my peers, keeping challenging and improving my lifestyle habits. It was great to be able to play football with these teammates. I will try to have better idea on what I could do and I couldn’t do, and I will try to improve them with my club. I have many more things to improve, so I will take advantage of the lessons I had here for my future goal.
