Canon Girls Camp of JFA Elite Program Women’s U-13 - training camp report (5/16, 17)
18 May 2015
The players had the second day of the training camp on 16 May and attended a lecture given by SASAKI Norio, head coach of Nadeshiko Japan, as a guest of the ‘Canon Programme’, in addition to their technical and defensive training sessions in the morning and afternoon.
In the evening, they listened to a lecture on logical communication skills and learned to contemplate, organise, and convey their thoughts, which is vital not only in their everyday lives, but also in football.
In the afternoon of the third day on 17 May, they had an eight-on-eight practice game in order to review what they had learned so far and started the latter half of their five-day programme.
On both 16 and 17 May, the workshops for U-12 and U-15 regional training centre instructors were held and the participants attended an open training session, a lecture, and a discussion to share the issues facing each region and things to be improved as well as coaching information.
Players' Comments
MOMONO Miyuka (Cerezo Osaka Sakai Girls)
I think I’ve improved myself since yesterday, challenging more and taking shots more aggressively. I’d like to try hard to strengthen my skills and work on my weaknesses on the third, the forth, and the fifth day as much as possible. I was becoming able to communicate with the players from other prefectures and to deliver my opinions. I’d like to continue it more.
At the logical communication skills lecture, I learned with fun how to and in which order I have to pass an opinion. I’d like to try that skill on and off the pitch to contribute to my team.
FUKUDA Riko (Urawa Reds Ladies Junior Youth)
Today, on 17 May, we held a training session in the morning and had a practice match in the afternoon. My goal in the game was to observe the situation to make a swift decision. I tried to look around while the ball was passed around. I could found the space and pass to my teammate on the run. In terms of swift judgement, I wasn’t quite there yet. I didn’t think of taking shots when the goalkeeper came forward. I’d like to create more goal-scoring opportunities by looking around more while I’m playing.
ABE Ayane (Albirex Niigata Ladies U-15)
When I defended yesterday, on 16 May, I was a bit too far from the opponent and let her play as she liked. So I’d like to bear the distance in mind whenever I defend. Today, on 17 May, we practiced taking shots in the morning and had an eight-on-eight game in the afternoon. I could practice shooting, constantly thinking about how I would do this in a match. Then in a practice game, I could use the skills I learned from the shooting practice.
MIZUMOTO Hina (Hokkaido Lila Consadole)
One of many things I learned through the training sessions and practice games is the importance of positioning and timing. If I slightly change the positioning, there will be more options or extra time for the next move. Controlling the timing is essential when I freely receive the ball. As I’ve never thought of the positioning and the timing that much before, by bearing them in mind my game has changed dramatically. I practiced finishing moves with shots and leaned that I could get through the opponent to strike a goal by changing the timing.
As I’d like to challenge many things during this training camp, I’d like to talk to numerous people off the pitch as well.
Comment of the coaching workshop participants
SAMIZO Sachiko, Technical Committee Director of Women’s Football in Aichi
I attended the JFA Elite Program for the first time. I felt the players' passion and a sense of progress through the training inspection, and I was really inspired by other instructors from around the country in the workshop. In the practical training session, I leaned some good tips about coaching, which was very beneficial for me. By attending the logical communication skills lecture, I realised the importance of the ability to think and judge, not to mention delivering your thoughts.
As I shared information about the regional activities and got some hints for coaching in my region or prefecture, I’d like to bring back what I leaned during these two days for future training centre activities.
