Canon Girls Camp-Training programme with Futsal Japan National Head Coach Miguel Rodrigo
19 May 2014
On the morning of 18 May, Canon girls played some 8-a-side games to learn to play various positions. They played 5 games which were 10 minutes each. Players became progressively more confident than previous day to express themselves in the games with louder voices - especially at times of direction to their teammates. They are expected to put the techniques they learned into practice, especially when under pressure even though the girls showed in the mini-games techniques and higher awareness when in defense which they had learned in the previous training sessions.
In the afternoon, players had a chance to have lecture and practical training with Mr. Rodrigo Miguel, Futsal Japan National Coach.
He taught about improving attention to surroundings and speeding-up players’ judgment under changeable game situations through making players to experience futsal.
They also had shot and possession training and a game using a futsal court. Players made effort to use common techniques with football, such as looking around well, ball possession, switching offense/defense, and well aimed shot, into the futsal game which has more limited space and time on the ball. They became more familiar with futsal ball which bounces less than regular football, trying to control the ball well using their soles.
Players enjoyed this valuable training session with Mr. Miguel who taughed them with passion and humor.

Miguel RODRIGO, Futsal Japan National Head Coach
I enjoyed this new experience to have the training with future Nadeshiko Japan candidates. I am very happy that futsal was allotted for this 5 days football camp. It will be a great honor if any aspect of futsal can contribute to football, - I believe that futsal is now recognised more as the member of “football family”.
MITANI Wakana (NTV Menina)
In the morning games, I found both of my strength and weakness. For example, as strength, I could angle first touch balls that made me feel easier to pass. As my weakness, I had to make judgment much quicker to avoid any trouble for both my teammate and myself after all. It was good for me to see what to improve. I will work as much as possible tomorrow again.
MASUNAGA Akari (INAC Kobe Leonessa U-15 (JFA Academy Sakai))
It was my first futsal experience today. Comparing to football, futsal court is smaller and you have to think very much, so it was difficult for me. In the lecture, I was surprised to know that Spanish kids have 6 times more chances than Japanese kids to play with futsal ball. As well as having football practice, I want to have some more time to play futsal to be able to control ball more freely. I definitely want to involve what I learned from futsal today into my football play. In the future, I want to be selected as a Nadeshiko Japan squad member.
MORIMOTO Shiori (FC Riforma)
Today I understood that futsal requires players to think quickly because futsal court is narrower and goal is smaller. Also I got to know that futsal experience does contribute to football players after knowing that Spanish kids play futsal. I will use what I learned from futsal practice today in my future football play.
