The 1st Chugoku Referee Training Centre for 2014 was held on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th April in Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima.
“Regional Referee Training Centres” are organized eight times (or more) a year by regional referee training centre directors assigned in each region for the purpose of developing Class 2 referee instructors and Class 2 referees.
Through this training programme, participating instructors and referees intend to take examinations to be qualified as Class 1 instructors and Class 1 referees in the future.

Esumi Naoki 　Regional Training Centre Director (Class 1 Instructor for Chugoku region)
We mainly did lecturing this time by analysing two matches, one Chugoku Prince League match and one 2nd division youth match in Hiroshima. We had only limited amount of time, but referees assigned in each match could realise their own weaknesses and their future targets. Presentations of football rules deepened their understanding of them. Meanwhile instructors did realise once again the importance of teaching technique to improve each referee’s strength. Also lectures and practical training in the area of fitness and lectures on importance of fitness training were provided. Participating referees and instructors actively exchanged their opinions and seemed very willing to learn.  

YAMANO Takashi　Class 2 Instructor (Yamaguchi Prefecture)
We had a very tight schedule this time. Also it was the first time in the year and we weren’t very used to it, so we were somewhat inefficient. The weather was cold for a spring day just like getting back to winter and we also had a cold rain, but referees and basically everyone worked hard. I am very thankful to organizing staff. The programme was efficiently organised in the limited amount of time and very fruitful. We will look forward to the next month and keep preparing for it.

ISHII Kazuhiro　Class 2 Instructor (Okayama Prefecture)
This was my first time to participate in a referee training centre as an instructor. Analysing matches had been my weakness and I wanted to work on that for this occasion. After the 1st session in Hiroshima on 5th and 6th April, I realise I still lack the analysing skill. But as I listened to my director and fellow instructors, I felt I certainly learned a lot. Especially I learned so much about how we approach refereeing standards and when we should apply advantages. I want to make use of these opportunities to get better throughout this year.

I received a lot of advice from many instructors during this regional training centre and I found it enjoyable to improve myself. I will take advantage of these precious opportunities and make this year a good learning experience for myself. 

KAWAI Kei　Class 2 Referee (Yamaguchi Prefecture)
The Chugoku regional training centre has kicked off and the 2014 slogan “Improvement KAIZEN” has been announced. All referees were convinced that we needed to listen with open minds, understand well, get involved actively and get better in order to improve in many areas through these trainings.  

MORIKAZU Shinji　Class 2 Referee (Hiroshima Prefecture)
Finally, the training centre has started, and I am excited when I think about how much I can improve in this coming year. I am still nervous, too, but hopefully all members will help each other and grow together.

TANAKA Toshiyuki　Class 2 Referee (Shimane Prefecture)
We received valuable advice from JFA Director Mr. Ota. Every programme including instructions on refereeing, practical training, physical training and presentations by referees was all new to me. I want to keep working on my assignments throughout this training centre in order to improve as a referee and as a person.

ISHIKURA Shoji　Class 2 Referee (Tottori Prefecture)
In this 1st referee training centre, I could learn a lot about fundamentals of football as well as refereeing skills. We usually call fouls without giving them much thought, but I was surprised how we all had perceived such fouls very differently. Also I realised once again how much JFA Training Centre Director Mr. Ota and many staff members are helping us. We don’t have many opportunities to listen to experienced people, so this is very valuable. I will keep working on presentations, practical training, lectures and analysing in order to become able to give back my good service to them.
