BLS Seminar held at JFA House

BLS Seminar was held at JFA House on Saturday, 7 February. This is an annual event organized for JFA trainer and operations staff with the corporation from NPO Japan Lifesaving Association.

BLS stands for Basic Life Support. There are many unexpected accidents of heart decease on football pitch and elsewhere, it is true we can save more life if we can give them a right treatment sooner. Total participants reached 25 which is the biggest turnout ever, who would be in a position to give treatment in the game or training. They acquired BLS license successfully after they learned BLS with programs of remarks by JLA chairman Mr. Iriya Takuya, practical training on how to use Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and lecture by Mr. Komine Tsutomu, professor at Chuo University on how life is precious.

- Looking to life of someone important for you and taking action

The goal of BLS seminar by Japan Life-Saving Association was to provide participants with the programs conforming to “JRC Resuscitation Guideline 2010” which was created by Japan Resuscitation Council (JRC) and Japan Foundation For Emergency Medicine. It gave them lesson and practical training for understanding the bystander point of view for few minutes and what actions should be taken before handing over to emergency/doctor team who come to the site.

The standard program is focused on how to treat people fall down to sickness, injury, unavoidable accident, natural disaster, etc. which could happen to anybody in everyday life. But we regularly conduct programs for people working actively at professional sports organizations. I felt the participants of this session pays close attention to top athletes and are eager to protect own life and their family’s but also team staff and supporters’ life. And they were aggressive in learning technique of life-saving in the hands-on training in addition to their positive attitude.

Stepping up from “knowing” to “actually conducting”. I would sincerely hope the participants of today’ session that learned how to handle AED, keep connecting “chain reaction of life-saving” for inviting more people one by one.

NAKANO Eriko, Nadeshiko Japan Trainer
I learned all about BLS from instructors of Japan Life-Saving Association, in terms of the basic knowledge, technique and its cause and repeated the practice over and over again. I was impressed with passionate message by instructor Komine Tsutomu about linking the life along with shocking video. I have attended the seminar like this at least once a year and I realize I don’t have matured skills yet and need to be much prepared. It might not be in the situation when you have to actually conduct this in everyday life not limited to sports scenes. But BLS is vital technique directly something to do with a matter of life and death. Especially this training, I realized I have to develop myself and brush up my skills every day. I am going to work on to promote BLS in the future for help saving life of more people.

HYODO Toshihide, Referee Department
As I took lesson on CPR and AED at fire station eight years ago, I attended the seminar as I remember what I learned in the past. Been eight years since I last time I learned, I found the seminar very informative for procedures of CPR was changed a bit and many things to learn for the first time. It would be an ideal if we will never have a chance to encounter the scene when I have to conduct CPR or AED, but I understand I would be able to help saving someone’s life for knowing how to use CPR or AED. I’d like to attend the course similar to this time again in the future.
