JFA renew contract with FIFA Early Warning System (EWS) to prevent match manipulation
16 February 2015
The Japan Football Association (JFA) renewed a contract with EWS for 2015 to protect the integrity of Japanese football. The JFA has continued to renew the contract every year since 2011. EWS monitors irregularities in sports betting for football matches and analyses its data. As soon as any potential match-fixing is identified, EWS is to report the JFA. The JFA aims at elimination of match manipulation from football along with the FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) while EWS plays a significant role in match manipulation prevention, risk management and data collection.
On 12 February, representatives of EWS (FIFA Security Director Ralf Mutschke and Head of International Affairs at EWS Jacek Wojdyla) visited the JFA to have an exchange of views regarding cooperation in the area of match manipulation prevention. The JFA, FIFA and EWS agreed on their continuous cooperation.
About EWS
EWS was founded by FIFA in 2005 to prevent match manipulation and help in its early identification in football in order to protect the integrity of football. EMS has built the framework for information supply from sports betting operators and regulating authorities around the world. EMS also works together with hundreds of international sports betting operators and monitors football match odds in sports betting markets through an individually developed system so that they can identify and analyse any irregularity.
With the spread of the internet, sports betting became available online, and Japan’s J.League matches are also one of the betting events. As a sports betting event, the J.League is comparable to the English Premier League or the UEFA Champions League. Football matches in Japan can be said that they are facing a match manipulation threat for gambling profit.
