U-23 Japan Women’s National Team short-listed squad start training camp in Chiba
22 August 2016
The U-23 Japan Women’s National Team short-listed squad started their training camp in Chiba under TAKAKURA Asako, the coach of Nadeshiko Japan.
It was the first activity for this team since the La Manga International Women's U-23 Tournament in March. As there were many new faces in the team this time, the players introduced themselves and talked to each other in the morning session. They moved onto passing, controlling, and possession practice. Lastly, they wrapped up the session with 3-on-3 with two neutral players and 5-on-5 drills.
In the afternoon, the team played an intra-squad scrimmage after practicing 1-on-1 and 2-on-1. They focused on the concept of ‘first defence,’ where the player nearest to the opponent in possession of ball provides pressure. In addition, they made sure that they face the opponents’ goal when they receive the ball and look for goal-scoring opportunities.
In the meeting, Coach Takakura emphasized the importance of playing for Nadeshiko Japan and being ready to face the tough international competition.
Coach and Players' Comments
TAKAKURA Asako, Coach
I’ve chosen the U-23 players among those who have been playing well in the Nadeshiko league or their respective universities. They are players who have the high chance of getting selected for Nadeshiko (Japan Women's National Team) in the future.
I expect them to focus on their basic skills, including the placement of the ball and the quality of passing. I will make sure that they understand that they have the chance to play for Nadeshiko and they need to improve on their individual skills if they intend to do so.
MF TANAKA Mebae (Kanagawa University)
Some of the training is quite similar to the one at my university. However, since the level of the teammates is generally higher, I’d like to work hard and learn from them. I was really inspired by their approach in defending around the ball. I’d like to practice, reminding myself the possibility of joining Nadeshiko Japan.
FW NAKANO Rino (CHIFURE AS ELFEN SAITAMA)
This is the first time I’ve joined a national team training camp. I’m grateful that I was selected despite the fact that my team was in the 2nd division of the Nadeshiko League. The quality of each play in the training sessions was really high. Although I’ve got only three days to go, I’d like to focus on basic skills and improve the quality of my play.
