Match Report

U-19 Japan Women’s National Team had their opening match against Vietnam on Monday 16 October at Jiangning Sports Centre Stadium.

Japan dominated the match from the start, launching fierce attack towards Vietnam’s goal. In the 3rd minute, midfielder SATO Mizuka sent a low cross between Vietnamese defenders and their goalkeeper, and forward ENDO Jun put it home to give her side the early opening goal. ONO Nana scored the second and her first international goal through a corner kick in the 30th minute. Then, forward UEKI Riko netted it the third in the 32nd minute with an off-balanced shot. Japan finished the first half at 3-0.

Japan’s attack did not slow down even in the second half. In the 53rd minute, the top scorer of this season’s Nadeshiko League 2nd Division TAKARADA Saori tapped in a loose ball from a corner to make it 4-0. After 57 minutes, Endo responded to defender TAKARADA Saori’s through ball and threaded a low cross, and Sato slotted it home to extend the lead to 5-0. The Japanese side were slowing the pace down and kept possession of the ball to maintain their advantage. Takarada added more goals in the 59th and 67th minutes for her hat-trick. In the 73rd minute, Sato met Endo’s cross before Japan ended their first match with an 8-0 win.

SATO Mizuka, who netted two goals, was awarded the player of the match.

Coach's and Players' Comments

IKEDA Futoshi, Coach (U-19 Japan Women’s National Team)
We started the match with composure and came up with a win. We have increased the number of times we can execute the plays that we have been working on in training during the game. Now, we have to improve the accuracy of those plays. We will get ready for the next Australia match as well.

DF #2 ONO Nana (Nippon TV Menina)
I was so happy to score in the Vietnam match because it was my first goal for the national team. We opened the scoring in the 3rd minute but struggled to add another goal. So, it was crucial that we got the second when we wanted to. However, we had problems with the balls coming behind our defensive line. The next Australia match will be important to qualify out of the group stage. We will work on the issues we found during the Vietnam match as well.

MF #23 SATO Mizuka (JEF UNITED ICHIHARA CHIBA LADIES)
My personal goal in this tournament is “to score goals,’ so I’m happy to achieve it in the first match. Talking about my first goal, I was able to exploit the space behind defenders because Ueki ran towards the near post. As for the second goal, Endo on the left side found me running behind the defenders and sent an excellent pass to me, and all I did was to put it into the net. We will make a good preparation for the Australia match as well.
