Match Report

The U-16 Japan Women's National Team short-listed squad had their second day of the camp and played a training match (20 min. x 4) against Kokoku High School.

Despite allowing opponents to attack from the beginning, the Japanese national squad did not gave away any goal-scoring opportunity as the defenders showed hard-fought defence. In the 14th minute, midfielder KARAHASHI Mayu intercepted an opposing player's pass and sent it to midfielder KOJIMA Seira. And Kojima fed it to forward TAKAHASHI Hana, but the attacker was not able to meet the pass. The first period finished 0-0.

The Japanese bench replaced two players from the start of the second period. In the 29th minute, goalkeeper TANAKA Momoko brilliantly saved a shot in a one-on-one situation. In the 30th minute, after receiving right midfielder ITO Miku's pass, Kojima provided a cross into the box. Yet it did not to meet her teammate to end the second period 0-0.

Although Japan managed to hold up against opposing attacks before the third period, they finally conceded a goal from the left flank in the 52nd minute. In the 55th minute, as Japan wanted equalise the scoring, forward MIYAMOTO Kano ran through to space behind defenders for a ball connected from Karahashi and Miyazawa. However, her effort was offside.

Japan changed most of the players for the fourth period. But they gave up goals in the 77th and 78th minutes before ending the match 0-3.

Head Coach's Comment

KUSUNOSE Naoki, Head Coach
To get good results at the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship in November, we are having a training camp to build the foundation of the team simultaneously as we look for and select talented players.

During the four-day camp, we have two training matches, but both are against the teams who are better than us. So it is a good challenge for our adjusting ability. In today’s match, we played with better attention to our motto “Everyone gets involved in offence and defence.” than the last training camp in April. Even though we gave away longer stretches of possessions to the opposing high-school first grader boys, but we often showed our attempts to play collectively and we played with a high level of concentration.

But in terms of finishing touches, it was obvious that we needed to be a little more creative. It’s difficult to create space and score goals against more physically imposing players. So our passers and receivers need to improve their skills and a third player needs to get involved better. We will work on it tomorrow for a better understanding of it and actual improvement, and then we will step it up in next match.
