Match Report
After defeating U-18 Muang Ton United in the first match, U-16 Japan National Team took on Bangkok Glass, simulating that winning the match would move Japan past the group stage.
In the 20th minute of the first half, FW Matsuoka Daichi (Cerezo Osaka U-18) scored the opening goal. But Bangkok Glass’s quick pressure and tough checks on the ball had Japan concede two goals including the one in the added time. The first half finished with Japan training 1-2.
Just after the break, Japan again gave up a goal from a Bangkok Class’s corner kick to go down 1-3 and the match proceeded as Bangkok Glass kept control of the tempo.
In the 85th minute, Sakimura Yusuke (Avispa Fukuoka U-18) scored a penalty kick called for a Bangkok’s handball in the box, but Japan couldn’t come back further and saw the end of the match with 2-3 loss.
Two days later, Japan will face U-16 Thailand National Team, who could be the opponent in the first match of the knockout round in the AFC U-16 Championship.
As the trip has been regarded as a good simulation for the AFC championship, the next match against the host country Thailand should be a valuable experience for Japan hypothetically with their back against the wall.
Comments
YOSHITAKE Hirofumi, Head Coach
We imaginarily set the match as the second match of the group stage with 3+1 points. We would either advance to the next stage by gaining three more points in Today’s match, get a draw and increase the chance to advance at the third match, or lose this one with the least goal difference. That was also a match where we wanted to learn how to design a big picture of the whole 90 minutes only by the players on the field. We lost our pace after the opening goal and gave up two. That was our weakness and very disappointing.
I’m still looking forward how we can overcome this situation, where we need at least a draw at the last match of the group stage to advance. The third opponent is the U-16 Thailand National Team, which would make the contest more interesting.
FUJIMOTO Kanya(Tokyo Verdy Junior Youth)
We had been told how important it was to prepare for the match and to get ourselves going, but couldn’t do those things. Starting with the time we spent in the locker room all the way to warm-up, we couldn’t get ourselves going. I will try to get into the game with 120% of my ability right from the start.
SAKIMURA Yusuke(Avispa Fukuoka U-18)
We won the first match, so today was very important to advance to the next. We scored the first goal, but allowed the opponents to come back because we couldn’t organise the match well. We kept up the ball during the match, but we created only a few attacks to the space behind the defence and couldn’t send effective feeds there. That gave us no goal opportunities to the end. We certainly need to win the next match by making use of the missed assignments from this match.
ISHIKAWA Hiroto(Sagan Tosu U-18)
We got the first goal, but we let them turn the match around because the way we organised the match was bad. We need to think about how we play after scoring. To me, I didn’t have many chances to get behind opponent’s defence, so I want to improve that as well as I want to run more.
