Match Report

The U-15 Japan national team had a friendly once again against the Indonesia national U-15 team. Japan, who looked to avenge their defeat at the hands of the Indonesia side two days ago, dominated the match with man-to-man intensity on defence, which they practiced yesterday, and came along with interceptions through good predictions all around the pitch. The young boys created a number of goal-scoring opportunities as Japanese forwards TANAHASHI Akito and YAMAYA Yushi looked for space behind defenders and their defenders and midfielders sent long passes to them. In the 23rd minute, midfielder FUKUOKA Shimpei settled a loose ball from a corner kick and netted a well-controlled long range shot to give his side an opener. In the 41st minute, midfielder SUGAWARA Yukinari fired a free kick on target for Japan’s another goal to end the first half.

The Japan squad was fired up at halftime by head coach MORIYAMA Yoshiro and with his words like “Show more fighting spirit.” With their coach’s encouragement, Japan went out for the second half to put Indonesia on the ropes with aggressive pressure. Meanwhile Indonesia sent on some fresh legs and had several shooting chances against Japan who were somewhat struggling to keep the distance tight between up front and the defensive line. But Indonesia kept failing to put the ball into the net. Japan, looking to get their momentum back, threatened the opposing goal when midfielder SUZUKI Toichi misfired a critical shot and midfielder KUBO Takefusa took a penalty shot off target. Then finally in the 80th minute, forward MIYASHIRO Taisei beat an Indonesia defender to a long pass and composedly put home past the goalkeeper to give his side the third goal of the match.

The U-15 Japan national team marked the first win for their overseas trip, beating U-15 Indonesia 3-0.

Head Coach and Players' Comments

MORIYAMA Yoshiro, Head Coach
In the match the day before yesterday, the players didn’t show fighting spirit and ended it up just like they were playing in Japan from start to end, and I was really unhappy with their battles on the ball. But I’m satisfied they played totally differently and got a totally different result today.

Before the match, I fired up the players like, “You never lose again against the opponents you lost before. You can’t go home with this. Think about how to win the ball and dominate them with showing fighting spirit. Play full out to show what you learned in the practice like where to start moving and how to intercept the ball through good prediction.” The players got used to the pitch condition and showed a high level of plays by understanding the idea of the team. Tomorrow, we have three 40-minute matches against a team with older players. I hope the players who didn’t play today rouse themselves there. We still have some assignments to improve such as careless passes after good plays, but I want them to show bold performances until the end like today.

AOKI Kokoro (JFA Academy Fukushima U15)
I’m happy we got back at the Indonesia U-15 team for the last defeat. In the first match, we stayed in our own end too much and allowed goals without correcting that. So today I aggressively told defenders to keep the defensive line up as much as possible. And we adopted what we practiced yesterday like positioning on corner kicks and free kicks. We had some dangerous moments, but finishing with a clean sheet gave us confidence. Tomorrow we have the last match in this trip. We all will refresh our mind to wrap it up with a victory against a strong team.

KIDA Hinata (Cerezo Osaka U-15)
I was very disappointed at the defeat the day before yesterday, and today I went out to win the match with fighting spirit. I was required to win the ball and provide forwards and midfielders with effective passes as a defensive midfielder. So I’m happy to make it happen even though I’ve still got some more to improve. Not only in tomorrow’s match but I will try to learn skills that enable me to play as usual on an ill-conditioned pitch as well.

FUKUOKA Shimpei (Kyoto Sanga F.C.U-15)
It was my first call-up, so I’m happy to do a good performance with a goal when I was required to produce some result. I was able to win the ball with aggressive pressure and create lots of situations to feed the ball to up front players. That gave me confidence. The team’s mood is pretty good with the victory, so we, including injured players, will get together to raise team quality, and personally I will score goals to get involved in team’s victory.
