Match Report
On Wednesday 7 November, the U-17 Japan Women's National Team held a training match against the U-17 Korea Republic Women's National Team as part of their final preparation ahead of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
In the first period of the training match, Japan conceded the first goal to their opponents in the 27th minute, despite taking control of the ball possession. However, they managed to level the match two minutes later when the ball was connected through NAKAO Momo and OSAWA Haruka before KAMIYA Chiina scored the goal.
Japan rotated majority of their players in the second period but continued to show aggression in their attacks. In the 48th minute, ITO Sara dribbled up the field before delivering a through ball but couldn’t connect with her teammate. KINOSHITA Momoka delivered Japan’s second goal in the 72nd minute when she connected with YAMAMOTO Yuzuki’s cross, giving her side the 2-1 lead.
The third period saw MORITA Misaki convert a goal in the 85th minute to give Japan a two-goal lead. With the match coming to an end with no further goals, Japan capped off their final training match ahead of the World Cup with a 3-1 victory.
Following the match, Coach IKEDA Futoshi addressed the players, “We can still get stronger.” The U-17 Japan Women's National Team will face their first tournament opponent Brazil on Tuesday 13 November.
Players' Comments
GK #18 FUKUDA Shiori (Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies Youth)
We have lost to Korea Republic at the AFC Women's Championship, so we entered this match with a strong intention to win. I played in our second match and managed to keep a clean sheet as I kept focusing on taking care of the space behind our defence line and stopping shots. I was able to push up the line and adjust my place-kicks depending on the pitch conditions. I hope that I can make these kinds of adjustments in our future matches as well.
DF #5 OKUMA Tamaki (JEF United Ichihara Chiba Ladies U-18)
We worked hard from the frontline to force turnovers and everyone showed quick transitions after losing the ball. These collective efforts made by each individual has given the team more time in offence. We managed to get ourselves involved in the offensive plays and scored three goals. I personally made many mistakes and couldn’t showcase my best performance, so I will challenge myself in the remaining training session to improve myself ahead of the tournament. We will work hard as a team to achieve our goal.
