Match Report
Japan Beach Soccer National Team moved to Sao Pedro da Aldeia on 26 March to play their second training match against Brazil.
As the match took place as a main event of a beach sports festival, the atmosphere was beautiful with many spectators attending the match.
In the first period, Japan took advantage of learnings from the previous day and went up aggressively for a goal. But Japan allowed a spectacle overhead shot in the 6th minute before conceding other goals one after another. Japan's first 10 minutes finished 3-0 down. MATSUO Naoya composedly netted AKAGUMA Takuya's cross in the closing minutes of the first period before entering the interval 3-1.
Brazil's fierce attack was not halted even into the second half. Brazil tapped in a deflection from a free kick just after the start of the period for their fourth goal. In the 5th minute, the home side put home a free kick for a 5-1 lead.
After Japan defence held out against the opponents' continuous attacks, NISHIGUCHI Keisuke gained a penalty and netted it on his own for 5-2. And in the 11th minute, OBA Takaaki found the back of the net with a combination with his teammate starting on a flank to close the gap to two goals.
But Brazil scored a rebound from a corner early in the third period and a direct free kick in the 3rd minute for 7-3, again extending the lead to four. Japan's TABATA Teruki converted a spot kick just after that and his side tried to rally back but struggled to take a shot. Japan, conversely, gave up a goal in the closing minutes, ending up with an 8-4 loss.
In this match, Japan allowed Brazil to dominate the possession but showed good combinations at times, some of which drew a goal.
The final match of their Brazil trip is scheduled tomorrow against Rio de Janeiro state selection Team.
Coach and Players' Comments
Marcelo MENDES, Coach
Today, the match went totally differently from yesterday's. We weren't able to control the game early on and gave up the initiative to the opponents. In the second period, we closed the gap to 5-3 and kept our hopes for the third period. But they scored two goals in one minute, which made it difficult for us. But for our young players, playing against the world top team is important and I think they felt how difficult to play at a high level. I hope they will analyse the experience for the next step.
NISHIGUCHI Keisuke (Aveldage Kumamoto BS)
I played against Brazil for the first time in my career and felt the level of world top level players. Everything like skills and speed was at a high-level and, on that basis, they were very hard-working. I found their strong desire to win as well. I'm happy to get a goal today, but I want to improve myself to make a right decision all the time with controlling the ball under pressure. I can't feel such stuff in my country, so I won't forget this feeling and always keep the world standard in mind when playing even after going back to Japan.
MOREIRA Ozu (Fusion)
With the two Brazil matches finished, we've got some good sides but rather got more things to improve. We gave goals when the momentum wasn't on our side. We need to keep a high level football with continued concentration until the end of the third period. But the young players and new players who got their first call-up must have felt that there is such a big difference between the world and Japan. Now we just started the team building. We will make this loss a good experience and work hard as a team.
