U-18 Japan Futsal National Team short-listed squad training camp report (9/22,23)

U-18 Japan Futsal National Team short-listed squad training camp report (9/22,23)

Tue. 22 September

The second day of the camp had 2 training session in both morning and afternoon.

The team’s Physical Coach MURAOKA Makoto led the morning training, spending most of the time for physical sessions that was full of necessary elements for futsal. The pitch was divided and the sessions were held in a circuit format - all of them were very new experiences for the players. This circuit method included various elements to encourage not only running well but also forcing the players to switch their body direction, and to seek the best timing to receive the ball.

Following on from a session yesterday, the afternoon’s session gave the players another opportunity to check their basic movements to receive the ball and a passing exercise to improve receiving the ball by making a good space around them. At the end of the day, they had a practical session of 3-on-3 games.

The players don’t seem to be tired and kept good concentration on the training. Due to there being only 3 days of this camp, it gave such a limited time to allow only 4 training sessions.  However, they have had a very productive time leading up to the intrasquad game which is planned to take place at the end of their camp.

Wed. 23 September

The last activity of the 3-day-camp was an intrasquad game. The players checked in the match what they had done over the previous 2 days of the training camp.

Japan Futsal National Team’s Coach Miguel RODRIGO visited the venue and gave them a message to encourage the players. He stayed for the rest of the training session and coached one team in the intrasquad game, raising his voice at the players on the pitch.

For the warming-up exercise, some exercises which are used for the Japan Futsal National Team were included and the players learned again about how to raise their motivation, paying particular attention to their condition and timing to get into the match better right from the start.

Each practice match was 25 minutes and they had two of them. The players improved their communication during these matches and their play became more intensive by experiencing the characteristics of the other players. The players improved their quality of movement compared to how they were on the first day and the matches went quickly.

For those who usually play football, their play seemed to change gradually to adjust to futsal. Even though they had only 3 days, the training camp was productive for the players.

Coach and Players' Comments

KOMORI Takahiro, Coach
We have had a very beneficial time for these 3 days. What was good at first was that we could see where we are now towards our goal; I could see clearly the current status of the players’ skill, tactics and fitness through the training sessions consisting of highly talented players with potential. Another good thing was that they could stand at the starting point of the basic play-style concept of the Japan Futsal National Team.

Since Miguel came to Japan to manage the U-24 Japan Futsal National Team players 6 years ago, this has been the first camp for under category players. I know that this is such an important first step for our clear purpose which is the AFC U-20 Futsal Championship in 2017. I made the players understand this during the camp. Regarding the players, I already knew that all of them that were called up this time were talented players since I had previously visited each of them.

They do have difference in their amount of experience in futsal, and in this type of unfamiliar environment, we carried on 4 training sessions and 3 meetings. I appreciate all of them for staying positive to learn and improve themselves even in such a nervous condition. I feel grateful for the players who tried their level best to achieve our difficult demands which asked them to learn the new play concepts and to apply their talents to that concept.

Our activities have just begun, and we will come back next December. I expect the players to keep working hard on what they learned about futsal not being satisfied with only the basics that they have just got, regardless of if they will be selected for the next camp.

YAMADA Masataka (FUCHU ATHLETIC F.C. Satellite B)
Since it was the second day of the camp, I could start the activities in a relaxed environment. The morning sessions were pretty hard with the circuit training, but we could do that in a wonderful atmosphere with a sense of unity. Tomorrow we are having the intrasquad game, so I want to do my best paying attention to what I have learned in the past 3 days.

MANAKA Yuto (Okayama Sakuyo High School)
Apart from what we did on the first day, we have had many more sessions which I didn’t experienced before, and I could find out some new things. In the physical training we had in this morning, we encouraged each other during in challenging moments and that made me feel a sense of unity as a team. It will be the last day of the camp tomorrow. I will do my best to show what I have learned during the previous 2 days.

MIYAZATO Yuki (Kyoto Kumiyama High School)
It was my first short-listed squad training camp and I have learned a lot of things that I could never experienced before. I could understand the similarity and difference between football and futsal. I think it’s possible to reflect advantages of both football and futsal each other. I want to keep improving by bringing the good atmosphere and the quality of training sessions of this camp to my local team.

SHIMIZU Kazuya (FUGADOR SUMIDA)
Throughout these 3 days, I could concentrate on the training in a very good atmosphere. It was very fresh experience for me to play futsal with various players with different characters. I will improve myself maximising what I learned in both this camp and the previous Japan Futsal National Team short-listed squad training camp.

ITO Keita (Hokkaido Kushiro Hokuyo High School)
In the intrasquad game, I tried to break through the opponents using what I learned in the previous training for 2 days. In this camp, most of the things were new to me and my teammates showed me how to do them. I can see a few outcomes of this camp. I could also find many issues so now I want to grow up having more training. It has been a very good camp throughout these 3 days.
