Match Report
The shortlisted squad of Japan Futsal National Team had the second training match against Malaysia National Team on 9 September which also was the last day of the training camp.
In the previous match on the day before, the Japanese squad lacked concentration early and allowed goals to the opponents. In this match, however, the team successfully recovered from the setback, scoring four goals only in the first half and dominating the match all the way. In the 20th minute, SHIMIZU Kazuya (FUGADOR SUMIDA), who has been selected to the team for the first time in his career, struck his first goal to boast up the team’s momentum.
In the second half, NISHITANI Ryosuke (FUGADOR SUMIDA) also added a goal in the 21st minute to extend the lead, but one goal was allowed to the opponents in the 26th. There were some more crucial moments defensively, but the overall stable defence led by the goalkeeper brought Japan a 7-1 rout.
WATANABE Tomoaki (DALIAN YUANCHAO) and MUROTA Yuki (ESPOLADA HOKKAIDO) scored two goals each and showcased their good form.
Players' Comments
INABA Kotaro (FUGADOR SUMIDA)
For today’s match, we were able to learn from the mistakes of yesterday and focused from the beginning of the match. There are more to improve, but we were able to control the match with our tempo and win it. My personally, I came to a national team camp for the first time in a while, but it turned out to be fun and fruitful. The lessons we learned from yesterday’s match also turned out be good lessons for the World Cup qualifiers and valuable experience for this team.
In addition, we realised the physicality and counter-attack speed of the Malaysian team, which reminded us of the improvement of the level in Asia. Every country is improving and there is no country that we can beat easily. So we need to have more of productive training camps to mature as a team for the real tournament. So, the first thing I want to do is go back to my club and take every practice session and league match seriously to come back to the national team again.
MORI Shuta (SHRINKER OSAKA)
This is the first national team activity in a year for me personally, but I am proud to do this in my hometown Oita. Speaking of the matches, I didn’t have a chance to play in the first match, but I did in the second. I was trying to be ready to do my job and play my style whenever I get called, so being able to do that was a good thing. As a team, we put ourselves in a tough situation by our easy mistakes in the first match, but in the second, we were able to adjust and execute a good match management.
But if it’s a one-and-done situation, we can’t do it this way. Takida, who has a lot of experience, gathered all of us after the first match and warned us, saying “Let’s concentrate more. There are not much left that we can do before the AFC Championship if you look at the time left.” We will have some more national team workout to do, but I think this team will be better as a unit than what we are now by the AFC Championship.
SHIBANO Sota (VASAGEY OITA)
It was good to be able to wrap up the training camp with a win in the last training match. It was big that we were able to improve as a team what we couldn’t do yesterday. The time left before the Asian qualifiers is limited, but we want to work hard in every single practice in order to be ready for the matches.
