Match Report
U-17 Japan National Team’s opponents at the last group stage match in the 22th International Youth Tournament of Václav Ježek 2015 were Hungary. As the group stage’s last standings were at stake, both sides came out to play aggressively.
Early in the match, Japan made several obviously bad passes to lose the ball, which allowed Hungary crucial opportunities. In the 32nd minute, forward YOSHIHARA Tsubasa replaced forward ITO Ryoya, and two minutes later Yoshihara calmly scored the opener after midfielders KAJIYAMA Kanta and YASUI Takuya broke through the left flank with a give-and-go and Yasui sent a cross to Yoshihara.
Afterwards the match remained as a deadlock for a while before the first half ended without any more goals scored for either side.
From the beginning of the second half, Japan’s ball movement picked up a good tempo, which repeatedly resulted in goal scoring opportunities. In the 50th minute, midfielder WATANABE Kouta sent a floating pass to the space behind opposing defenders, and midfielder MIYAZAKI Kiwara rushed in to take it to a 1-on-1 against the goalkeeper. Miyazaki was composed enough to convert it for his side’s two-goal lead.
In the 59th minute, however, Japan gave away a goal to Hungry following the European side’s corner-kick, and just one minute later had it tied when revamped Hungary surged toward Japan’s goal.
Although Japan kept playing the newly-evened match maintaining their rhythm, their lack of finishing touches let it go into the penalty shootout. Based on the tournament’s three-man shootout regulation, Hungry had the first and second kickers made their kick.
Japan, on the other hand, saw the second kicker, YOSHIHIRA Tsubasa missed his after the first DOAN Ritsu scored his own. Hungary’s third followed his teammates and converted his opportunity, which gave Japan a PK3-1 loss.
As a result, Japan got out the Group A at third place and now look to play against Slovakia, third in the Group B, for fifth place overall on 22 August.
Players' Comments
YASUI Takuya (Vissel Kobe U-18)
Today our ball movement had a good tempo over all, and we created many scoring opportunities. So we played well, but what we couldn’t do was finishing plays with good shots. I wanted to play more aggressively toward the goal and make good assists to my teammates. We want to win the last match of the tournament tomorrow and finish it on a good note.
MIYAZAKI Kiwara (Albirex Niigata U-18)
We disappointingly lost by the penalty shootout, but our game wasn’t so bad. We lost our rhythm after allowing the first goal, and then allowed another right after that. That was something we could have stopped.
Personally I could score one goal. I had a good ball coming, so I went into the space. It was a little difficult, but I had a good initial touch and I could pass by the defender to score. We want to prepare well so that we can have a good result in the placement match tomorrow.
