Japan Women’s U-19 short-listed squad: Training camp report (22 April)
23 April 2015
The third day of the training camp of Japan Women’s U-19 short-listed squad started with a recovery session after the training match held on previous day. In the morning, they had 10 minutes running and stretching exercises and then the team was split in to 2 groups of offense and defense and the offense group had a 1 vs. 1 session with a goalkeeper and also shooting practice from crosses. The defense group concentrated on dealing with attacks from crosses.
In the afternoon, the players had a rondo session to improve passing and ball control in a limited area, and then had 6 vs. 6 sessions concentrating on ball possession. Finally, they had an internal practice game to get ready for the training match planned for tomorrow. In the meeting after supper, they had a lecture about doping. It was a good chance for the players to gain knowledge about self−maintenance by learning what to take in addition to medicines and supplements.
Players Comments
TAKEMURA Misaki (INAC KOBE)
This morning we had some sessions for physical recovery and defense especially from crosses.. In the afternoon, we practiced particularly for improving our ball possession. We found some of the issues from the previous match such as switching between offense and defense and making a quick decision if we counterattack or calm down right after stealing the ball. For defense, I think we did a good job, stealing the ball by having a good defense combination which we have focused on during this camp. Tomorrow we will play against a male team so we expect that they will be tough in speed and physical strength, but we want to do what we have learned throughout this training camp. I will try my best, not repeating our mistakes made in the previous match.
MIYAGAWA Asato (Nippon TV Menina)
Today we concentrated on ball possession and I tried to make good passes paying attention to team mates inside. However, my passes went too high and sometimes I got too close to the defense player giving them an opportunity to try to get the ball and I couldn’t be consistent to keep possession. Now I understand how much important to have good skills in stopping the ball and making accurate passes. We have another training match tomorrow, so I just want to improve my passing accuracy and combination play. Even though we have to spend more time in defense, I want to attack in a unique way once we get any offense chance.
MIZUTANI Yuki (Tsukuba Univ.)
This morning, we were divided in 2 groups in FW and DF. We FW group had a shooting practice. Knowing the fact that a consistent player is important and encourages the team by just being in the team, I want to improve my shooting skill for any future scoring chances. In the afternoon, we had another training session paying attention to positioning to receive the ball well. I tried to receive the ball thinking about where I want to move the ball up to the opposite side. However, I couldn’t move the ball to the opposite side today, so I will keep this in mind. Tomorrow is the last day of the camp and we have a training match against a male high school team, I will want to show my strengths well as much as possible.
MATSUMOTO Mamiko (Urawa Reds Ladies Youth)
We are in the latter part of the training camp and obviously we are getting tired. In this type of condition, we had a physical recovery session and then group training according to playing position in the morning. In the afternoon we had an internal practice match. Goalkeepers spent a lot of time practicing how to deal with attacking crosses. Yesterday at the match against Shimizu S-Pulse Youth, I couldn’t play as I wanted since the opponent players were different in shooting strengths and speed. It is important for the goalkeeper to adjust her position according to where the ball is, even though it is just a small distance. Personally, I’m not good at this form of attack with forward passing, but now I have got to be familiar with this by having repeat practice. I know that I can’t jump to the ball well, taking my fear away, but I want to challenge well in my future practical training sessions. Tomorrow, we will play against male players. Speed and shooting strength will be different, but I just want to show what I have learned during this camp.
