Match Report
One day after an Omiya Ardija match, the Japan Under-19 squad took on another team that were better both technically and physically, but it wound up being an equally played contest as both sides created shooting opportunities. While Japan got the ball at higher places and connected the chances for short counters, their defenders were aware of providing fast lateral passes and the receivers relayed them directly to others to have attacks. Moments past the 30th minute, Okugawa dribbled in the left side and fed a pass to Sekine, who ran into the area before the goal. Sekine, who was wide open, fired a shot, but it was nicely saved by the opposing goalkeeper. And on 36th minute, Japan gave up a goal from a careless passing mistake. They were not able to catch up and the match entered halftime with the 1-0 score.
Like on the previous day, Japan entered the second half having substituted majority of the members. They had more time spending on their defence, but would not allow another goal by playing physically. And toward the end of the contest, they created some offensive opportunities from the left side and did fire a middle shot from near the box. Yet they failed to tied it before the final whistle.
Both the previous day and this day, the Japan Under-19 team weren't able to come up with results they wanted, but were still good occasions for the team being able to share good play images between the players.
Comments
SUZUKI Masakazu, Head Coach
We got to have very good experience as we played with superior teams in this training camp. We are going to share on good players we had in these two training matches, so we can take advantage of those in our further national team activities. We would like to have good preparation toward October's AFC Championships.
MATSUMOTO Masaya (Oita Trinita)
I think that the way we entered the match was good. Offensively, when we were able to finish with shots, it meant that we were rotating the ball well. So if we can keep it up for the 90 minutes, we will eventually have more time to possess the ball. Also, I felt that we will need to elaborate on our offensive chemistries before the goal. Defensively, I felt that we would be able to get the ball more if we are on the same page as to the timing of going to get the ball and the locations we want to get it. I would like to bring what I felt today to my own team and work on them in our daily practices, so when we are assembled next time we can play being on the same page.
NAKAMURA Kosuke (Kashiwa Reysol)
We played a pair of matches in this training camp and lost both of them. In order for us to come up with a good result in the AFC Under-19 Championships in October, we will have to take one game at a time, winning them. As we are going back to our own clubs, I would like to do my best everyday.
KAWABE Hayao (Sanfrecce Hiroshima)
I was only given 45 minutes of play, but I felt that we still had a long way both as a team and individually. As we got to play with the J1 teams, there were more things that we couldn't do in our ways. But I also thought that if we improved on our counters and had more offensive options, we could turn the table. Yet we will need to learn a lot more patience and toughness.
OKUGAWA Masaya (Kyoto Sanga F.C. U-18)
Through today's game against a top J1 team, we got to find so many issues we need to work on. What I felt most was pressuring. The pros come at you harder than in our youth games, so it gave us harder time playing in our own ways and I wasn't able to show my own game. Going forward, I would like to have a higher mind-set when I return to my team so I will eventually able to equally play in the pro level.
