Coach's Comment

Marcelo MENDES, Coach
We will be heading to the Asian Beach Games after playing 2 practice matches against Tahiti. As we lost against Iran in the final two years ago, we are here to take on the task of reclaiming the title in Asia as a challenger.

The day before yesterday, the group-stage draw took place and we are placed in the same group as Afghanistan and China. Honestly speaking, we are surprised to hear that Afghanistan qualified for this tourney. As they haven’t played in major international competitions in the past, we cannot prepare ourselves ahead of time. Since this will be our first meeting, we need to see them in the actual match and get the feeling of how they play. Then, we will decide how to compete against them.

China were the hosting country of the previous international competition, and we have plenty of video footage and a good understanding of how they play. Their key players are university students. They are young and powerful. However, at times, their lack of experience in beach soccer shows up.

China also have ample amount of information regarding us. They also can make the necessary preparation competing against us. We believe it will be a close contest.
