Match Report

The Japan national beach football team took on Hungary as their second match in the 2014 BSWW Mundialito on 26th July. The Japan side entered it with exactly the same starting members from their contest against the United States of the previous day.

In the contest, Japan had the momentum for much of it as they possessed the ball longer, while physically-superior Hungary tried to overwhelm with their power.

Six minutes into the match, Japan struck first when Goto netted a long pass from Toma with a bicycle shot. And early in the second period, Oda dribbled in the middle after he tenaciously kept it, and scored a goal to give Japan a two-goal lead.

Hungary began showing their fatigue past the mid-second period, and Japan controlled the game by possessing the ball even more. Yet Japan weren't able to extend their lead before entering the third period, although they created so many scoring opportunities before the Hungary goal.

On 29th , Hungary finally scored from a counter after they got a loose ball following a corner kick.
Japan's lead was cut down to just one, but they didn't lose their composure and give up the momentum to Hungary. Then on 30th minute, Moreira controlled a loose ball following a corner kick this time, and brought it to their front field. Moreira composedly made it into the net to make the score 3-1 to nearly clinch the contest.

On 32nd minute, Goto reacted to Oda's long shot. He changed the rout of it and it went in. And lastly, Moreira netted a long shot right before the final whistle, and the Japan team posted an overwhelming 5-1 victory after all.

Meanwhile, Portugal routed the United States 14-1 after the Japan-Hungary match. The European team and Japan will play their third match with the championship on the line.

Comments

Marcelo Mendez, Head Coach
First off, we are satisfied with our defensive performance. Preserving the balance with our offence, we were able to dominate through all the three periods. Compared with our performance in our game against the United States, in which we were affected by the fatigue from the trip and time gaps, we were far better as we'd expected. Our players were very relaxed and looked to have entered the match having been relieved from their pressure that they had in their first game against the United States. Now we will get to take on Portugal. Whether we will come through against stronger opponents – that will be a good test for us. I'm certain that it will be a good contest.

GOTO Takasuke(TOKYO LEQUIOS BS)
I'm right now feeling like it's so much fun to play beach football. I can always get in a match being relaxed, and it's easy for me to play because I'm always given a clear role. And I have the confidence to carry that out. More than anything, I love to score. Especially, when I can score with an overhead shot, it boosts me even more. Like today's match, when I score some goals, the team wins and we can share the joy, it feels the great. Our mood gets better by winning, and our laughs won't last forever even at the hotel. We want to win one more and then make a history.

TERUKINA Shingo(SOL MAR PRAIA)
I'm relieved that we ended our second match against Hungary with a win. This game, although we had a big margin with the score difference, I couldn't say that the content of our performance was good enough. As in our first game, we had some moments that we'd lose our momentum from our own mistakes, and we'll need to correct it. This tournament is the first international competition after a part of the rules have been revised. I personally struggled in some part, so it was relieving that we ended up winning both. Now we'll get to play against Portugal for the championship. We will have to take it, otherwise the two games will have meant nothing. So I would like to keep my focus to surely contribute to our team for the victory.
