SASAKI Norio, Chairman of JFA Women's Committee
The players’ dedication in Japan after the competition served as another reminder of how close we were at the FIFA Women's World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™. Meanwhile, we are facing a bit of a scheduling conflict because the Asian Games in September overlapped with the activities of Nadeshiko Japan (Japan Women's National Team), who are set to play an international friendly match on 23 September. However, both are very important activities ahead of the next Olympic Games. Following a thorough discussion with Nadeshiko Japan coaches IKEDA Futoshi and KANO Michihisa, we have chosen a combination of young and seasoned players that we hope to see in this competition. The tournament schedule coincides with the final group stage of the WE League Cup, but the players' clubs have been very cooperative in sending their players. Although the Nadeshiko Japan will not be participating in this tournament, we will of course be aiming for the championship, so please lend us your encouragement and support.
KANO Michihisa, Head Coach
We have put together a group of players to compete at the Asian Games who will actively challenge themselves and contend for the title. There are many young players on this squad, but we will take on challenges and compete so that we can raise the level of our overall game ahead of the Paris Olympics. We want to win the competition as a team, but we also want our players to showcase their individual strengths and determination while gaining international experience. We shall showcase our commitment to winning every game during this competition in Asia by competing fiercely and making a valiant effort to score goals. Given the short amount of time we had before submitting our roster, we chose the squad mostly on the basis of their performance in the WE League the previous year. From the beginning of the selection process, we worked closely with the Nadeshiko Japan staff, led by coach Ikeda, who shared information on the condition and performance of each player. I took it upon myself to select the squad, which covered a wide range of players, from WE League players to those playing at university.
