JFA 25th U-15 Japan Futsal Championship to kick-off on 11 January
06 January 2020
The JFA 25th U-15 Japan Futsal Championship will take place from Saturday 11 to Monday 13 January at Mie Prefectural Sun Arena.
A total of 16 teams will compete for the futsal national title for the U-15 category, as nine regional qualifiers will be joined by the host representative from Mie, two teams from regions producing last year’s champions and runners-up; Tokai and Shikoku, and four teams from the top four regions who saw the most participating teams in last year’s qualification round; Hokkaido, Kanto, Hokushinetsu, and Kyushu.
The first round will be held in a group stage where teams will be divided into four groups to compete in a round robin format. Top teams from each group will advance to the knockout round to determine the national champions. (No third place match will be held at this tournament.)
The first tournament was held in 1995 where Sapporo Daiichi Junior Youth was crowned as the inaugural champions. Among the list of champions, Nagaoka JYFC hold the record of most wins with five titles. Most recently, Brincar FC have won their second consecutive title last year.
Fixtures for the first round have been determined as the host representative Tsu Rapid FC (Mie) will clash against ReiZ Nagaoka FC (Hokushinetsu2/Niigata), Nagasaki Rainbow SC (Kyushu1/Nagasaki), and Matsuyama Jyohoku FC (Shikoku1/Ehime) in Group A. In Group B, malva Ibaraki fc (Kanto2/Ibaraki) is grouped with FC Twins.Aichi (Tokai2/Aichi) and SSS Junior Youth (Hokkaido1).
Group C features Nagaoka JYFC (Hokushinetsu1/Niigata), who will be seeking for their sixth title, while in Group D, last year’s runners-up Kochi Junior High School (Shikoku2/Kochi) will seek to better their result from a year before.
The JFA U-15 Japan Futsal Championship has produced many J.Leaguers and F.Leaguers in the past. It will be interesting to see how the event will turnout this year.
