Independiente Santa Fe (Colombia) arrive in Japan for SURUGA bank Championship 2016 IBARAKI

Independiente Santa Fe, who will participate in the ‘SURUGA bank Championship 2016 IBARAKI’ on Wednesday 10 August at Kashima Soccer Stadium in Ibaraki, arrived in Japan. Independiente Santa Fe, from Colombia, became South American champions for the first time by winning the COPA SUDAMERICANA 2015. The match against Kashima Antlers, the winners of the 2015 J.LEAGUE YAMAZAKI NABISCO CUP, will kick-off at 19:00.

Coach and Players' Comments

GUSTAVO COSTAS, Coach
It’s the third time I’ve visited Japan, including the time I came here as a player. I like Japan a lot, as it’s clean and people here are polite. As the SURUGA bank Championship is one of the most important titles for Independiente Santa Fe, we’re very eager to win the tournament. Although it’s been only two weeks since I took over as coach, I’m not worried as I used to lead this team. I’d like to put on an excellent match in the Santa Fe playing style for Japanese football fans. I also hope to show that the level of Colombian football is as high as that of Argentina or Brazil.

FW #24  HUMBERTO OSORIO BOTELLO
This championship is one of the most important international ones for Santa Fe. Our playing style is to sustain possession and to play quickly. I’d like to show Colombian football, the South American football, to the Japanese people.

FW #16  ANDERSON PLATA
We won many titles last year. I believe this year is another one full of opportunities for Santa Fe. The coming match is also essential. I’d like to show off our style – initiating attacks while keeping possession, so that we can win the cup.
