FIFA Club World Cup returns to Japan in 2015 & 2016
23 April 2015
Japan Football Association announced today that FIFA Club World Cup will be held in Japan three years after the last edition in Japan in 2012.
The 2015 edition will be held from 10 December through the final of 20 December, among club champions from each of six Confederations and representative club from host country, competing for the title of No.1 club in the world.
Mr. DAINI Kuniya, President of Japan Football Association expressed his joy of hosting the competition.
“Japan has hosted a total of 36 editions of this prestigious competition which determines the No. 1 club of the world. The role this competition has played for the development of Japanese football is tremendous, as it is a valuable opportunity for both players and fans to witness the world trend in club football.
Not only does this competition bring exciting and entertaining football, it also gives us an insight each participating country’s club culture and the respective domestic leagues. Currently, 4 clubs from J-League are competing in AFC Champions League. I truly hope that 1 of the clubs qualifies as the Asian Champion and share with the people in their hometown, the joy and pride of competing on the global stage.
Together with FIFA, we will do our utmost to ensure the success of this competition. It will be an important experience for us as we look forward to hosting other major sporting events including the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
The participating clubs from each Confederation will be decided from April through November, followed by the champion club of the J.League to be decided in early December.
