On 13th April, 2014, JFA’s executive committee member Kamikawa Toru, and its special director, Ayabe Michie, provided special speeches and participated in a panel discussion on RESPECT and human resource development at the academic conference at the Japan Radiology Congress (JRC) 2014.

The JRC consists of the Japan Radiological Society (JRS), the Japan Society of Radiological Technology (JSRT), the Japan Society of Medical Physics (JSMP) and the Japan Medical Imaging and Radiological Systems Industries Association (JIRA). Related organisations in the field of radiology, radiological technology, medical physics and more collectively hold events such as academic conferences and exhibitions.
It is held in every April in Yokohama and offers over 1600 research presentations and exhibits state-of-the-art equipment and devices by over 160 businesses. As many as 20,000 visitors gather at this four-day mega event.

This joint project started with the proposal by JRC, which is to partner on the issue of human resource development. JRC’s idea was that the vision of JFA’s RESPECT Project, “Treasure it”, is also essential for “promoting collaborative approach to medicine” that is a widely-acknowledged topic in the whole medical industry. There was quite a large audience in the venue paying close attention to the speakers.

As part of the presentations on human resource development in each section of the medical field, Ayabe Michie, JFA Special Director, gave a speech titled as “All for the Team” and participated in the following panel discussion. As she shared her own experience, she spoke about perspectives vital to coaches including how to assign roles to kids to maximise their potential, going abroad at a young age, and attending to young players who don’t get chances to play in a match.

The executive committee member, Kamikawa Toru, introduced the RESPECT Project, and also gave out a presentation titled “Respect Supports the Game”. He showed films from the FIFA World Cup in Germany in 2006 and explained how good games are created based on the trust with players.
In terms of human resource development, he also shared the skills required for young active referees, which are paying attention to details in matches, taking immediate actions needed, not being prejudiced, possessing consistent standards, and prioritising self-control.

After the presentations, the two were awarded with a letter of appreciation, and the special speeches and the panel discussions ended with great success.

This joint project was very meaningful not only for the organiser but also for the JFA. Introducing the RESPECT to the world outside of football or sports is an important opportunity to spread RESPECT, and a program like this should be continued and expanded.

The presentations by special director Ayabe and executive committee member Kamikawa were outstanding and very touching. Providing quality medical care starts with “Treasuring” patients and medical staff, “RESPECTing” them. Then it is quite essential for all professionals such as doctors, nurses, and radiological technologists to execute the “collaborative approach” together. It was our great pleasure to engage in this joint project with the JFA at the JRC 2014.

I would like to show my deep appreciation to the two for giving us such a touching presentations. They shared wonderful real stories of smiles by kids enjoying football, praises by the elite players and communication and trust all of which we just knew as facts but didn’t really experience.
