Participant’s Comment
Mr. UCHIYAMA Toshihiko (Vissel Kobe)
Module 4 has started following a month-long break, and we have now entered the third week of the four week module. Through the activities and lectures conducted this week, there were plenty of new findings.
The week started with a debate session held by Mr. KITAOKA Toshiaki on Tuesday 5. Following the session held during module 3, this was the second time we held a debate session, and with the unique and strong presence of Mr. Kitaoka, the participants entered this day with a sense of nervousness.
The themes of the debates were predetermined, so we have spent plenty of time preparing ourselves ahead of this day. With this being our second debate session, intense and heated debates were on display. The logical thought process to get a point across will become an essential skill when coaching a team.
On the second day, Ms. TANAKA-OULEVEY Miyako lectured us on “mental training,” as we learned how to mentally prepare ourselves and deal with stress in the context of sports. We also conducted a diagnostic test to find out about our stress-types. Through this lecture, we were given a valuable lesson on how to deal with stress as a coach.
The second lecture held on this day was on the topic of “professional coaching theory,” lectured by Mr. OKI Takeshi. The stories told by Mr. Oki were based on his own experience, and they were all very practical episodes, especially because he has coached for so many different categories. During the lecture, Mr. Oki emphasised the importance of having fun, and those words left a strong impression for me.
On Thursday 7, a lecture on “media theory” was conducted by Professor YAMAMOTO Hiroshi of Hosei University, where he shared us with his experience as the former executive announcer of NHK. His strict professionalism has left a strong impression on us, and his detail-oriented approach is something we can implement in our future career as coaches.
The coaching sessions were held with the help of the staffs of Mitsubishi Yowa and the Edogawa University football team, as we re-emphasised the seven themes we have been working all along. During module 4, we focused on allowing the players to “play football” and “play freely,” which requires an even higher level of team management skills from the coaches. With the demands getting higher, the participants were able to focus even more on the sessions and hold productive discussions to improve each other.
There is just one more week left in this module 4. We would like to thank the staffs of Mitsubishi Yowa SC and the Edogawa University football team for making the coaching sessions possible. Because of their help, we have been able to conduct a very productive module. We will continue to give our utmost efforts to make this a positive experience for everybody.
Next week, we will share the report from Mr. TOKISAKI Yu (Shonan Bellmare).
